Live on Your Own

At this time in your life where you found yourself a stable job, earning well and happy with what you are and have right now, what else are you planning to do? Is it something tangible or not? Well, we have different priorities in our life – pursuing further studies, having your own family, and much more. And here’s one thing to consider: living on your own.

In our culture where most of us are very attached to our families, parents in particular, it is quite hard to say goodbye and start doing things on our own. But come to think of it, sooner or later, we need to be more independent as we go on with our lives apart from our parents. Having your own home is one way to assert independence. You may start by acquiring Park Terraces condo for rent which is strategically located and might be near your workplace.

Here are some tips to help you with your journey in living independently:

1. Know how you see yourself

Deciding on having your own place is a good plan. But after that, what happens next? It’s always best for you to think of what you will be doing for the next five, ten years and so. It’s not a plan to pressure you but to guide your decisions in life.

2. Be ready

Being ready is quite complicated. You should be prepared not just financially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, but holistically.

Remember, you will be living on your own now. You should know how to handle your finances – expenses, savings, investment, etc. Some, even if not living with their parents, still give money as their contribution to sustaining their parents.

You may be in your house alone, with your better half, or colleagues. This is actually one of the major adjustments you should be ready. Your parents will not be there to assist you as usual. Your siblings won’t be there to put the tricks they used to. You might have some breakdowns and the sudden thought of going back. It’s not bad, but you should be able to handle your emotions and not letting it rule you.

Whatever it is that you should be psyched up, prepare with all your heart and mind. Assess yourself if it’s really the time to go or no.

3. Decide wisely

From choosing your partner, new home, furniture – everything should be well thought of. You don’t have that “undo” button in life where you can take a step back and do something different. But the good thing is that you will learn a lot about yourself and life in general. As what they say, use your mistakes as a springboard to get yourself back up.

4. It’s okay not to be okay

For some reason, you’d see yourself as a failure or feel that everything seems to be a mess as if you took the wrong step. These thoughts may linger for some time and might even haunt you in your dreams. Starting to do something as big as living on your own is basically hard at first (and even in the next few years). But don’t worry, it’s okay not to be okay! Being happy all the time is not a responsibility. Besides, you’ll get used to living in your own home without your usual companions a.k.a. parents and siblings. And hey, you can visit them!

Each of us has unique visualizations and emotions toward living on our own. Whatever those may be, one should be ready to take that leap of faith. Is it the right time to move out and live independently? Only you can answer that.
