Move Your Personal Properties

Getting ready to move into your own studio unit in High Park in Vertis North, Quezon City? Wait up, you need to gather and move your personal properties first like appliances and furniture, right? Moving things especially the bulky ones is not an easy task. You are going to need help for sure unless you are 100% sure that you can do it by yourself. So, what do you do?

1. Make arrangements in advance

Whether your friends and relatives or a professional moving service will help in transporting your properties, you need to make the arrangement at least four weeks in advance. You can always tell your friends that it’s time, but you cannot do so if a moving company is involved hence schedules must be followed.

Check with your condo association if it has partnerships with local movers to be entitled to deep discounts. In this way, you’ll know which companies are reliable enough since they won the trust of the association. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with working with another mover that you prefer.

2. Prepare the necessities

If you are determined to move your things personally, you need to prepare boxes and crates that you can fill with your stuff. Make sure that you’ll have bubble wraps and newspapers too where you can insert to areas where oddly shaped items won’t fit and for cushioning. Wrap the fragile and breakable items with these materials as well. This ensures that there will be no broken pieces during the transport.

A mover can provide you with these. But to make sure, ask your choice of a service provider. Ask the condo association representative to assist the delivery staff once they arrived at the condo building if you are not going to be there personally. Also, this will surely be convenient for you and the staff especially if authorizations of sorts are required.

3. Start packing in advance

Possibly, start packing at least two weeks before the actual moving in date. Last minute packing spells disaster. Make sure everything’s covered. Start with your less-used items. Pack your must-have items last. Give, sell, donate or throw away those you will no longer need in your new home. Through this, you’ll need to move lesser items and have the extra cash to buy new things that you would need.

When stacking the boxes, make sure that the heaviest are at the bottom and lightest on top. Make sure that all the boxes are packed solidly – no rattling sounds and no shifting with a subtle shake. Seal each box tightly. Put a list with descriptions outside the box of the items inside it.

4. Pack intelligently

Other than the practical packing tips mentioned above, there are other important things you need to know. For instance, for easy unpacking, place all the kitchen items in one box, all the living room items in one box, etc. Mark or color code the boxes so that it is easier for the personnel to target the boxes to its rightful place in your new condo. This means, if possible, go to the condo in advance and mark or color code the areas in your new condo where these boxes should be placed.

Number each box after packing. Keep a record of the total. In this way, you will know if a box goes missing. You can also identify which box was missing and what items are inside it.

5. Create an inventory

Not just in case of losing a box, but also for ensuring that all items are accounted for especially the high-value items such as antiques, art collection, jewelry pieces, etc. The moving company can prepare an inventory for you. But it would be wise to make your own list for cross-checking purposes. Keep the list in your hand carry bag.

Take out the list when unpacking so you’d know everything’s transported properly. To make things easier, you should have an inventory by room since you packed the items by room. Cross out the items as you unpack them.

Practically, moving in is not as difficult as it seems that is if you know where to begin the process. The items above are a proven way to have a trouble-free moving, minimizing stress and damage in the process. The key is planning ahead. After all, being proactive has several benefits. Good luck and happy moving!
